Sticky Fingers
I love spending time with children, there is NEVER a dull moment. There are many differences between "grown-ups" and children. When does the time arrive in life that people stop honestly expressing themselves? At what point do we no longer cry out loud when something hurts us? Why do we not jump up and down when we are excited? Why do we no longer wear sparkly dresses over our shirts and t-shirts? Why does every home not contain plastic instruments to carry around and bang on when we feel like it? What ever happened to nap time at 2 p.m. to keep us from getting grumpy later? When do we realize we need to use a napkin and not have sticky fingers all day?
Change is a fact of life. In Ecclesiastes 3 scripture teaches there is a time for everything. Change is necessary, but there are many things we can learn from children. There is one particular attribute that every child has on a daily basis that we should keep around...STICKY FINGERS.
1. STICKY FINGERS are a sign that you have been active...
Proverbs 31:27 is describing a woman of noble character, it says that she watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.
Children are into EVERYTHING in their household. There is no such thing as boredom or being lazy in the mind of a child, there is no time to be idle! May we seek to maintain this energy from the Lord. We will grow tired and weary and the Lord is our rest, but may we work unto Him and keep our hands busy.
2. STICKY FINGERS are a sign of where we've been...
After just a few moments with a child it is not difficult to tell if they have had chocolate for a snack, just finished some "artwork", or even enjoyed some time in the great outdoors. Children cannot keep secrets for very long, their lifestyle is evident all over them!
1 Peter 3:15 commands believers to always be ready to give an answer for the hope that they have. Children have to live by this when they get into a variety of different "adventures." They know shortly after engaging in an "adventure" it will not be long before they are questioned by a parent because the evidence of their "adventure" is all over them. Oh to be questioned for our adventures because our faith in the Lord is all over us.
3. STICKY FINGERS leave their mark on EVERYTHING...
A child's sticky fingers affect everything they come in contact with. The countertops, the doorknobs, their toys, the telephone, the couch, and the list goes on and on! Their mark is officially left EVERYWHERE they have been.
It is my desire that as a follower of Christ I would be able to leave a mark everywhere I have been. This will not be a mark created by myself. This is a A chocolate brownie with ice-cream sweet mark, a mark of my Savior Jesus Christ!
